December 2006

We started the month out by traveling down to Pensacola, Florida so that Ty could complete some Water Survival training. Carter and I hung out in the hotel room and shopped to pass the time. I was also very worried about finding a house at this point because we were considered homeless once we got to North Carolina. We drive into Goldsboro, NC late Friday night and I had appointments set up for us on Saturday to look at some places. The first house that we looked at was beautiful and so the others throughout the rest of the day just couldn't compare. We ended up choosing the first one and signed the papers on Monday to move in by that Friday. It was such a relief to know that Christmas was not going to be spent inside our hotel room! Tyler also started F-15E training that week, which at this point is just full of heavy academics.

Moving day was long but went very smoothly. My friend Lindsey was visiting her cousin over in Raleigh for the week and came over for the day to help out with everything. She was such a blessing! Once the movers left, we just started unpacking the kitchen and talking and before we knew it I needed to go and pick up Tyler from work. It felt so nice to sleep in my own bed that night and finally have a place to call home. Carter was so excited to get his toys and books set up. He also got a new bedroom set that we had to put together first thing! It was funny to see run around the house just because we finally had the space instead of being couped up in a hotel room. That weekend we got fairly settled in and geared up for one more week before Christmas break. Ty returned to class that Monday, leaving Carter and I at home to unpack the boxes. I really pooped myself out the first 2 days and felt like an old woman for the rest of the week. Moving while you're pregnant is so inconvenient! I would just make piles or lists of things that I couldn't do throughout the day that Ty would need to do at night and it drove me crazy!! By the end of the week though, we were almost box free!

This Christmas was very different because it was the first Christmas for both Ty and I to be away from our families. We made it work though and were just happy to at least have each other. Carter had a ball and literally started opening presents weeks in advance. Santa visited us and brought Carter his "kooter" that he really wanted. Christmas morning was an adventure with a 2 year old and his attention span. The family time that we were able to spend together and relax was the greatest gift this year. We got some quality shopping done in Raleigh the day after Christmas, and also had Ty's little brother Drew come out and visit us for a few days! He was on his 2 week leave from Iraq, so it was SOOO good to see him and listen to all his stories. Carter loved getting to play with him, and Uncle Drew definitely spoiled his nephew while he was here.
