Carter's Art Show

Carter's school holds an annual art show towards the end of each school year. They choose a few special pieces from the past year to showcase off their "skills.” I must admit that as excited as I am to see what he has on display, I am equally (and maybe a slight more) nervous than the average mother would be. Perhaps it's because I know the magnitude of my child's imagination or, maybe the skill (or lack thereof) of his ability to draw anything outside of Star Wars battles. In either case, he surprised me yet again this year with some fabulous art work!
One of the biggest projects he’s done to date was by far the Dictionary. It was his first “book” and naturally, each page had one letter to which they needed to come up with two words that started with that letter. They had the option to draw or write the words. Again, I was nervous. It turned out to be a true keepsake for life because it gives you such a glimpse of how Carter thinks. A few examples… “A” was for army men and Ax. Whatever happened to ant or apple? “C” was for Connecticut and coconut. “M” was for Mom (ahhh….) and mallet (what ?!). “T” was for teeth and tick (as in the blood sucking, disease causing insect that he honestly has no clue about). Lastly, “U” was for umbrella (pretty normal answer) and Uranus (not so normal).
