Carter's Fall Soccer Season

Once again, Ty volunteered or was volun-told by his wife that he was going to be coaching 11, 4-6 year olds, the game of soccer this fall. And... once again, guess who ended up with 90% of the job. Yup, me. The one who never played a day of soccer in her whole life, who can't kick properly to save herself and the one who has a 2 and a half year old that refuses to leave her side. It was an adventure to say the least.

It ended up being a great season, Carter and the rest of his teammates loved every minute of it! We were bright yellow with red writing and were sponsored by Riverside Spraying Service. Needless to say, during the first practice our top priority was to think of a new name. The kids came up with the Yellow Bees. BUZZ!
We played four Saturdays in a row and never lost a game. In fact, we only had 1 goal scored on us. Carter was typical Speedy Gonzales and just all over the place. Ty and I realized that the whole excessive watching of SportCenter wasn't neccesarily a good thing when after he scored his first goal of the season he took a victory lap around the field with his arms out in a flying, bird-like formation and yelled at the top of his lungs "GOOOOOAAALLLLL!" All of this while rocking his arms back and forth. The first time it happened we both looked at each other in shock and the second time his "coaches" had a little talk with him. Afterwards in the car we revisited the issue and were both told that he was nearly just doing what Ronaldo does when he scores. As hard as it was for our 5 year old to understand, we both made sure that in the end, he saw the small difference between the MLS and pee-wee soccer through the local Parks and Recreation Department.
