Carter's Solar System

Everyday Carter goes to school from 8:30 till about noon. He loves every minute of it and most days, begs to stay all day. We've watched him grow up so much in the last few months. Last year was a lot of social maturity. Not a whole lot of learning, just a energy release. This year, it's the real deal. It's Kindergarten. His passions are still math and reading but recently he has really developed a love for drawing. Each day I pick him up I'm amazed by the stack of worksheets he's accomplished in his 3 short hours and also pretty proud of some of the "inventions" he's finally got out of his head and down on a piece of paper.

A few weeks ago, I noticed a large circle drawing that had some odd coloring all over it. Since it wasn't labelled as anything, I asked Carter what he had drawn. It was Venus.

Well, of course it was! I mean, why on earth didn't I know this?!?

The next day, it was the same thing. Except, this time it was a different color and had all kinds of lines on it with a large spot. Again, I asked what it was and again, was given a look of, "COME ON MOM! It's Jupiter."

I knew they weren't learning about the planets so, questioned his reasoning, "So Carter, why planets?"

He replied, "Well, I just couldn't stop thinking about them at school and wondered hmmmm, wonder what it would be like to have a real solar system in my own room you know, cause it's outside. So, I just wanted to turn my white paper into planets."

So, throughout the next few days, he completed the system and now there's a solar system in our 5 year olds room. I think his mind will always amaze me.
