Friday Nights at the Walsh Home

Friday nights are a big deal in our house. For the most part, it means Daddy is coming home and staying home for at least a consecutive 55+ hours. They usually involve a fun dinner, dessert, games, movies, wrestling matches and other things of this nature. Up until a few weeks ago, all of the "plans" were usually coordinated by yours truly. However, just recently, Carter has started assuming the "party planning" duties and has really came up with some interesting activities for us all to take part in. Two weeks ago, he gave me some 23 minute speech on the way to school about everything that would be happening that particular Friday night. He had one request, that pizza would be served. That evening before Ty got in, I let the kids make their own homemade pizzas. If you know anything about me, this was very hard for me but they both had such a fun time! They weren't actually that messy and really did a nice job piling on the toppings. As soon as Ty walked through the door, the pizzas were done and we had a delicious pizza dinner all while Carter explained the game he had created earlier. It was called, "Duck and Run," and yes, you guessed it... it was just that. It was your basic Dodge ball game where he was going to be standing in a stationary spot in the living room armed with about 50 soft colored balls and Ty, Whitleigh and I were suppose to run around the house trying not to get hit by them. Every time you got hit, he would write your name under the "Unlucky" column on his grade sheet. Needless to say, it was hilarious when the other type A personality (Ty) tried to change the rules, cheat Carter's system and throw him a few curve balls. Whitleigh and I lasted all of about 3 minutes and then exited stage left to attend a very important tea party in her room but the boys played the game for over an hour.

After we tucked the kids into bed and before Ty and I started our own movie, we both sat there and had to laugh at the evening. We came to a consensus that:

  1. It's amazing what parents do for their children!

  2. It's incredible to watch your kids grown up and act just like their parent(s)!

  3. Family time is priceless.
