We were all set to go to Atlanta over the Fourth of July weekend when on Friday night Carter started really complaining about his "bum huutin', weally bad." After Ty and I studied WebMd for about 30 minutes and a few phone calls back home, we decided it was a boil and we should probably try and relieve some pressure.
Well, without making everyone who reads this sick to their stomachs, it was thoroughly disgusting! At one point I looked over at Ty and thought he was going to pass out, so we called the doctor and he recommended the ER right away. The next few days were filled with ER visits, shots, a lot of tears followed by, "My BUM HUUTS!" So needless to say, we were unable to go to Atlanta to our friend's wedding and also to meet up with Grandpa and Grandma Walsh. Carter started to feel lots better though when we told him that Grandpa and Grandma Walsh were going to come and see him at his house. We had such a fun time, John and Ty golfed one morning and Joni and I got in some good fabric deals at my fabric store. Of course Carter was not left out at all; he got a new soccer goal for our backyard and hasn't stopped playing on it since! Ty taught him to kick and score, then run around with this hands in the air screaming, "GOOOOOAAAALLLLL!" It's fun to watch him celebrate, especially when he tries to rip his shirt off like the guys on T.V.The middle of our month was filled with playing with our friend Alex, who I watch for a guy in Ty's flight class. Carter and him are only 2 months apart and keep me going all day long. We have enjoyed our pool and also the luxury of having air conditioning. The heat some days is unreal when i
t's paired with the humidity. We are making it though, day after day. Carter had his 2 year old checkup and was healthy as a horse. He stayed consistent in the 10th percentile for weight (24.5lbs) and 25th percentile in height (32.5 inches) such a peanut! If the theory holds of being able to double his height at two and getting what he’ll be as a grown man- he’s looking at a solid 5’6”. A regular HEAVYWEIGHT! He’s doing wonderful though- talking up a storm and always keeping us grinning. Ty has had an extremely hard month of flying. Everyday seemed to be longer and longer but he is now checkride complete and only has a few more flights left in the program. We are ready for August to come. We have the count down going till Assignment Night (August 25) when we find out what Ty's career plane will be and if we get to leave this pitiful state of Mississippi.On the 24th we celebrated our 2nd anniversa
ry, WOW, has it gone quickly! Since it was on a Monday and we knew Ty would be preparing for his final checkride, we celebrated several times that weekend by going out to dinner. On the 24th, Carter helped me bake a cake for Daddy (carrot cake with cream cheese frosting). He did so well, such a big helper. Of course he had to sample several times to make sure it tasted just right. Ty was nice and surprised when he got home.
Our biggest obstacle of the month has been potty training. Good grief- any suggestions are GREATLY ACCEPTED! It just seems like such a slow process, but I have a feeling we are getting there- slowly but surely. We started wearing real big boy underwear the last couple of weeks when we are at home (most days) and he has done wonderful. We have also switched from M&M's to Skittles as our reward and that seems to have helped too. We've only had one MAJOR accident, so he's really not doing that bad! Hopefully we hit the break through before my patience runs out and my child is wearing Huggies in Kindergarten!Our July ended with Ty being out of town. He had to get his cross-country out of the way and his group of guys chose to go to San Antonio. He was able to get in his night flight and also some night approaches. Things are looking all down hill from here, continue to keep our future in your prays. We know that God has a plan for us wherever we will go or even if we are picked to stay here for another 3 years. It won't be long till we can starting thinking about that next phase of our lives. :}

Gretchen,
I love reading this! What a summer you all have had! I had to laugh at the boil and potty training as I have seen my parents go through so many gross and challenging things with all my little siblings!! I think Andy and I will wait a little longer ;)
We can't wait to hear what plane Ty gets. If you come through Ohio in Aug, give us a call. We are on short term TDY at Wright Patterson for the month!
