When Ty left in March, Carter asked when he would be home and Ty really couldn't give him, or anyone for that matter, a straight answer. He promised him that he would try his best to be back in May. He made no promises for his birthday or for any other event happening that month... just simply gave him hope for the month of May. And, that he did. As fitting as it was, the finale of our Memorial Day weekend was the arrival of Ty on the afternoon of May 31st.
Ty and I have chosen not to ever tell our kids that Daddy is coming home until we are honestly stepping out the front door to pick him up. There are so many "moving parts" to getting him home, it's never a for sure thing until he's about an hour or so away. That is damage control that I never, ever want to deal with. Ugh, I get a stomach ache thinking of the 2,483 questions that would immediately start coming out of my two kids' mouths.
Back to the homecoming....
We flew back into Boise earlier that afternoon and Ty was suppose to be landing around six that evening. Once we got back home, bathed and were getting ready, I told the kids that we were planning on heading out to base for a BBQ. No biggie. We go to plenty of those so, no questions asked. Around 5pm we were set to leave but before I let the kids get in the car, I asked them to go to the front step for a picture. Again, nothing out of the norm. After taking a few, I turned on the video and gave Carter the "cue."
*side note* Carter had made a "Welcome Home" sign for Daddy with Grandma Walsh. After Ty didn't end up coming home that weekend, I put it up and figured it would be my cue for him when I did go to tell him that Ty was officially coming home. Also, notice the excitement in both kids and then watch it quickly escape Whitleigh when she realizes that we have to go out to the flight line to pick up Daddy. Jet noise is certainly NOT her favorite hence the ear covering.)

Whitleigh quickly got over it and "excited" is an understatement to what my kids were all the way out to base! Shortly after we arrived, one of the guys informed us that they were about 20 minutes out. The minutes passed and the excitement grew. In what seemed like hours to carter & Whitleigh Ty finally landed right around 6 o'clock in the evening. He jumped out of the jet and was greeting by two kids who wouldn't let go of him for days to follow!
Another priceless homecoming!
A very special thank you for all the love, support and prayers that all of our friends and family continue to show and do for us! We wouldn't be able to do this without you.
