They started their day with Mrs. Ray very quietly saying (yeah...saying, not shouting!) "Stop, Look and Listen" and the room fell completely silent. I was amazed! She told them to pick up what they were doing and to join her on the ellipse (big round tape circle in the middle of the room). After doing the calendar, weather and number chart they all turned and said the Pledge of Allegiance and sang their flag song.
"Flag of America,
Red, White and Blue.
Flag of America,
A SALUTE we give to you!"
Ta-DA!!!
This is the "shelf work" that Carter put his name on for me. I had to walk around the class to try and find it and when I did he told me, "it's the hardest shelf work in the whole class! HAAAHHAAA!" Thanks little man!
He gave me my lesson and I basically had to find matching ending sounds to little flash cards. There were a few cards that we got hung up on because we weren't quite sure what the picture was trying to tell us. I had to smile because I knew why he thought it was going to be so "hard" for me!
Then it was free choice time and naturally Carter goes and grabs a book and Whitleigh took a seat next to him. He read us both a few stories and then it was time for us to leave. The enitre morning I couldn't wipe the smile off his face. He was so proud of himself and loved having the right to be my teacher for the day! I was so proud at how he handled himself and the amount of patience he gave Whitleigh since she felt like she was just as big as everyone else in the room!
