August 2009
Usually I start off my monthly updates saying, "Where has this month gone?" Not this month. Seriously, September can't come soon enough. Ty left the first weekend of August for Louisiana and even though it was only going to be three weeks, the transition never gets any easier. When he's gone, I never realize how long of a day I've had until right before dinner when it dawns on me that I still have 3 more hours, bath and bedtime to do without any help. When he left, our little man had become quite fond of their evening batting practices which were often times coupled with mini-soccer matches, wrestling, pop fly drills, and putting contests. Not to mention, the nightly SportCenter dose that the two of them would share cuddled on the couch together. I try my best to fill most shoes but Daddy's shoes are tough ones to fill.
Even though Daddy left, Carter hasn't missed a beat. Whitleigh and I have been educated (very well) in all MLB baseball thanks to Carter and his new obsession with SportCenter. Of the twelve times it airs in a day, he averages almost half. Being the number kid that he is, he loves to watch the score ticker at the bottom for updated baseball scores or the upcoming games that are going to be played. I'm not exaggerating when I say, you can honestly call him up at 10am any morning and ask him who any team is playing that evening and he'll not only tell you their opponent, but also where the game is being played and the time of the opening pitch. Yeah. So. Baseball has been Carter's world for the past month. Never in a million years did I think I'd ever be so happy to watch/listen to the World Championship Track and Field Competitions, but the break from nightly baseball was great! :-D
As for Whitleigh, other than being roped into playing baseball with Carter and I, she has became quite the budding artist. She comes to me and asks to paint at least 6 times a day and could honestly sit for hours just doodling. The other day she didn't want to go to Sunday school and choose to sit in church with me and colored the entire time. It was then when I actually sat and watched what she colored. See, normally as she sits in her chair to color, I'm doing dishes or cooking or cleaning meals off of walls or floors. So, during church I watched her start at the front of her Princess coloring book (she would have it no other way) and with each page, she'd only color the lips, earrings, fingernails, necklaces or buttons. What a girly-girl we have, huh?! I eventually took my crayon and colored in some of their hair or dresses and Whitleigh, without saying a world, would shook her head 'no' and looked at me with a look of, "No Mom, that's not what I'm doing right now." She's a very determined little girl and certainly has her mind set. The apple doesn't fall too far from the tree there.
Anyhow, we have done our best to make the most of each day and weekend. We've visited the pool, the park, Boise, Daddy's squadron, and friends' houses. Carter continues to sucker me in to batting practice every evening and Whitleigh insists on playing Princess when I'm not shagging balls, pitching, or kicking. Carter starts school on the 25th. Whitleigh gets to start her very first ballet class on September 8th and hopefully sometime in the middle, Ty will return to save us all! Enjoy the pictures and the rest of your summer days!
