April 2008

Continuing from my last post that, embarrassing enough, was over a month and a half ago...

We filled the rest of our April days with lots of outside play since we were spoiled rotten with beautiful weather. Soccer season also officially started this month and Ty and I volunteered to coach Carter's team. To top things off, Ty was trying to finish off is upgrade for work. So yea, pretty busy month!

Carter was busy at school learning about dinosaurs and spring happenings. The greatest part about his day is still recess, when he gets to run his little legs until they don't run anymore. He specifically asks me to pick him up late so he'll have more time to "run!" His classroom had an art show this month also. At his parent teacher conference earlier in the month, I had asked why Carter didn't come home with half of the things some of the other kids did when it came to coloring, cutting, painting, etc. I asked mainly because I wanted to make sure he was completing what he needed to be doing and also because if I picked up one more completing the pattern sheet or math work problems, I was going to have a stroke. His teacher just laughed. She explained to me that since the school followed the Montessori guidelines, there were several "activities" for the children to choose from. Coloring, painting, and cutting was always a center that he could choose. HOWEVER... he didn't choose to do that. Our little math wizard and true little boy liked the building, patterns, math, puzzle centers instead. Needless to say, when they said there was going to be an art show Ty and I were a little nervous. Here is what we saw. From top left corner and going clockwise, Carter told us that these were pictures of "some squiggles on foil," "marble art," "his friend Garrett," and "the submarine from Disneyland." Naturally we were beaming with pride and in awe that our child created such masterpieces. Then Carter looked up at Ty and said, "That's it, now... can you please come play checkers with me?"

Our new Wii rule still applied this month- WEDNESDAYS ONLY! Consequently, Carter lived and died for Wednesdays. I dreaded it like the plague. Honestly though, I can't complain too much because if you saw the way Carter plays Wii, he's certainly not your typical video gamer. You know, the one who sits on the couch, slumped over, moving nothing but his thumbs? Yea, Carter is jumping or swinging something most of the time and when he isn't, he's got the whole boxer bounce/dance going on. He's exhausting to WATCH! It's a true passion of his right now especially all of the competitions that can be done on it. Since we have 3 games as of now, he mainly sticks to Mario Power Tennis. As you can see from the pictures, he really gets INTO the game! Below is a picture of him afterwards, and yes... that's sweat!

Now about Whitleigh, our second busy bee. She's my little shadow and continues to grow up more and more. By the end of this month, her love for all things Princess has grown into a mild obsession. Anytime we see anything with the Disney castle or with a picture of a princess on it she immediately stops in her tracks and says, "Look, Look, LOOK! Oh..... MY..... WORD!" She knows the names of each princess and is starting to work on their bios :-D!

With the beautiful weather, she and Carter both have enjoyed some park time and backyard activities. She started out pretty cautious but is getting a little braver with each visit. Being the complete opposite of her big brother, she loves to draw, color and carry around a crayon with a piece of paper. She's truly a wonderful helper and studies everything that I do during the day only to imitate it later on in her room with her babies or kitchen. I remember loving this age with Carter because it seems like they grow up so much once they turn 2. They become your best little friend.
