If there was just one thing that I was most excited about doing this spring and summer, it would have been planting flowers and a garden. To me, there is just something so rewarding about gardening and this time was so special because I wouldn't be leaving it in the middle of the season or at all. I was going to be able to see product over a span of three years which is longer than I have ever been able to stay anywhere! In the spring, I worked and worked to get everything planted in specific spots and in my mind just imagined my backyard being transformed in a botanical garden. Carter and I spent many afternoons while Whitleigh was sleeping, outside prepping the beds and cleaning weeds out. To keep my little helper busy I gave him 2 packs of sunflower seed and his very own area right up next to the house. He just had a ball! Every day that I went out to pamper my areas, Carter always made sure to love and water his little sprouts too.
My enthusiasm decreased slightly in June when I still didn't see much (or any) product coming from the areas that I spent so much time, work and (shhhhh) money on. Come July, all hopes have been lost for my berry garden, tomatoes, pumpkins and watermelons. I have a few cannas, glads and lillies shooting up out of the ground but nothing else is alive. On the other hand, as you can see in the picture, Carter's sunflowers are doing beautifully! He is so proud and reminds me almost daily that his flowers are bigger than mine.
