Wyoming Trip

Towards the end of June, we received a phone call that my Grandma wasn't doing well. She had been fighting a very hard battle with Pancreatic Cancer since 2008 and in the few previous months, she had really started to decline in health. Although the terms for a visit were not what we wanted to think about, we tried our best to focus on the positives. One being that Ty hadn't seen any family since he returned from his second deployment in late May. We packed the car late that Sunday evening and hit the road first thing Monday morning.

Once we arrived in Douglas, we took it slow for the first few days and just hung out waiting for my Grandma to get out of the hospital and then to hear when she would be ready for visitors. In the mean time, the kids had no problem filling their time with outside activities and Ty got in some good quality golf with his Dad. On Thursday afternoon, we all traveled down to Scottsbluff to see her and hang out with her and my Granddaddy for a few days.

It was terribly hard to see her in pain and as slow as she was. It wasn't but 3 years ago she was running around that same backyard with the kids making ME tired just by watching her. We knew that cancer was robbing her of her life, but seeing it first hand was extremely difficult for us, me especially.

All in all, we had a wonderful time and made memories that will last forever! I knew that the few days together were special but it wasn't until later in the summer when it hit me just how much of a blessing that visit really was.
