It's been awhile since I've missed an entire month of blogging! Guess it just goes to show you how busy we all were. It all started when Carter and Ty had to be back to school and work on the 5th. Rolling back into routine is never fun, but so very necessary! Whitleigh and I picked up where we left off and enjoyed those first few days at home, just relaxing and prepping for the months activities. I had several volunteer jobs to accomplish and coordinate, we had a lot going on with the squadron, and then there's the household chores to complete as well.
Outside of all of that, Whitleigh has proved to be our second sponge when it comes to academics. She practically begs to be taught something 75% of the day. She loves working with her hands (workbook pages, painting, playdoh, puzzles) and insists on constant flattering while doing any of those. The other quarter of her day is spent in fairytale land where she flits back and forth from being Snow White, Cinderella, Princess Aurora and sometimes throws in a little Fancy Nancy to break the whole Disney trend up a bit. We're positive that she really does believe she's a princess once the "spinny" dress and faux glass slippers go on. Once we see the dress and shoes, we've all just learned to call her Princess from the get-go to avoid any breakdowns. Our battle with her this month has been her sneaking into our bed in the middle of the night. Most of the time, we don't even know how or when she does it. I'm a very light sleeper so when I wake up at 7 in the morning and she's between the two of us, I'm just amazed. We both felt like we had put up with it for long enough and decided to put a stop to it. After about 22 different bribes we finally found her weakness. Nail polish. Tell the girl she can get a new color of nail polish and get her toe nails painted and she doesn't care if her bed is outside! YOU HAVE WON HER OVER! This of course know means that every random person we come in contact with must see her "won-da-ful no-nails" (i.e: supermarket check-out lady, doctors, teachers, children in Sunday school, etc.) but it's the sacrifice we are willing to pay for a good nights rest. Our proudest moment of her this month was when she 1) actually attended Sunday School without tears and 2) walked out of that same class and had memorized her first memory verse. She was so proud of herself and repeated it over and over throughout the week:

"I will sing of his gwait (great) love fo-ev-vo (forever)" Psalms 8...umm...9.....1!!!
As for Carter-Man, he has been busy with school and itching to start a sport. Spring soccer doesn't start until March so we've been trying to pass the time with all of the warm days we've had by just playing out in the backyard. Ty took him and a friend to an Idaho Steelheads Hockey game around the middle of the month. A true guy night for all of them! He is still on this Lego Star Wars kick. It's like the nail polish issue with Whitleigh, if you get him started it's a 20 minute discussion of who's who and what's what and it'll usually end with some sound effects and a light saber fight. The oldest child in the house (Ty) only makes the obsession worse by secretly living through Carter's ships and figurines. I'm still trying to see the point behind all of it, but then again, who am I to judge? I'm too busy sitting in fairytale land with a 2.5 year old. :-D
We are looking forward to a slow February. We have nothing major planned. The boys hope to get some skiing in before the close of the season. Carter has never been and was really excited to try up until the Winter X Games came on and now he thinks that's what "skiing" really is. We're still working on him. I promise to be a better blogger this month, sorry for leaving so many of you out in the dark. Enjoy your February!
