May 2008
You know it's been a long month when you have to look back at pictures for help on how to begin an update. Yet, it came and went just as quickly as ever. We had beautiful sun, pouring rain, and several days of wind- each day was something new which made it interesting when it came to planning any kinds of activities. Here's how our month went...
Ty was able to take some vacation for the first week of May. We got several things done around the house, caught up on some sleep, started a few projects and thankfully were able to enjoy some outdoor play dates with the kids. Carter was finally able to break out the B2 Bomber kite and practiced some soccer with Ty before his soccer practices started the following week. Whitleigh wasn't to sure about the great outdoors. She started the month very leery about the grass. She loved being outside but taking the plunge and walking out into the grass was a little too much for her. When we would take her out and just place her in it, she would just freeze, then after several minutes she would slowly pick one leg way up and place it down slowly to make sure everything was secure. It was quite comical! She adjusted slowly and became more and more trusting of the lawn. Both kids loved being outside and were huge helps on the yard and flower beds!
After Ty went back to work, we too had to get back to reality and back on a routine. Carter started up soccer every Tuesday evening and it was the true highlight of each week. Ty had another "business" trip to attend in Utah around the middle of the month for about a 12 days. The kids and I were originally going to stay home until I found $38 plane tickets into Denver. So we drove down to visit Ty for his first weekend, which happened to be Mother's Day weekend, and got to do some shopping, went to a fantastic Children's museum, and then hopped on a plane late that evening. My brother is a frequent traveler down to Denver on the weekends due to a very amazing girl, so on his way home he picked the kids and I up at DIA and took us back to my parents house in Wyoming. We thought it would be fun to surprise them, so when we walked into the house at around 1230am, turned their bedroom light on and Carter jumped on them- you could say they were a little shocked! We hung out in Douglas for a few days and then made an even longer trip out to Omaha, Nebraska for my cousin Sara's college graduation. We were able to see a lot family and had a wonderful time with everyone! Since the graduation ceremony took place in Lincoln and Ty wasn't along for the trip we decided that it was a perfect time to introduce/brainwash my children in Husker knowledge! We took them to the bookstore and Carter even got his picture at the Cornhusker's stadium (a.k.a Mecca). It really was a great trip!
After returning to Wyoming from Nebraska, we had one more day in Douglas before we headed back down to Denver to catch the plane back to Utah. Ty was still there so he was able to pick us up from the airport and the next day we all made it back home. The small vacation was so nice but it really did feel great to be back at home. There were just a few more days left of the work week and then Memorial day weekend came. Again we were pretty lazy, just enjoying our time back with each other and getting some much needed housework done. The last week consisted of preparing for the much anticipated T-ball season, and, of course, Carter's 4th birthday! Ty volunteered to coach Carter's team and they held their first practice on the 27th. On Thursday the 29th (Carter's birthday) he took baseball cupcakes to practice and had a great time getting to run around and play with all of his teammates. He certainly knew it was his special day and chose macaroni and cheese for his birthday dinner (lucky us huh?!). Hard to believe he is 4...
And that's been our month. I think that I am going to start posting more than once a month, this total recall is getting tough so be looking for more frequent pictures, slides and videos. June is going to be filled with baseball, outside play times, fishing trips and maybe our first family camping trip (?)... I can hardly wait!
